This what I could get from my professor’s literature about how to write thesis or dissertation properly. There are some e-books delivered to be learnt before we go to the class. Awesome, he!

Chapter 3: “Developing the Proposal”.

But I was feeling not satistied with all the matteries, so that I tried to find out more literatures. Seems like a change of my lunch having such of these reads! Hehe. Here are some links I could find. If we try to search for, it seems difficult, but not actually. Here we go:

“Perbedaan itu hikmah dalam melakukan penelitian”, said my professor. Place of load thinking is on how to asnwer the purpose of the research. It should be match with our research question. So nice to hear it. So challenging I think.  And tips that he could say was about do not make any confusion according to the theory.

1. How to get the topic?

It is always asked for the apprentice. Do not need confusion, because actually there are three main steps to answer it:

a. Choose the domain of our knowledge focus

b. Sharpen the keywords

c. Execute the keywords

What the funny one was about how getting a passion said  by my professor. Sometime, passion was there by a forcement or pushing. Writing thesis or dissertation needs a lot of efforts, even cry and money. Here are some tips:

a. Get our real passion

b. Collaborate with research agendas, it might be come from our own campus or other sources

I also wrote his quote:

“ Ilmu itu terangkai, lama-lama menjadi bukit”

(Knowledge will be a hilly knowledge by collecting and collaborating it)

c. Consultation will be a good and important part in doing research.

2. How to develop the ideas

Do you know what is the hardest think in doing research thesis/dissertation? Well, here we go: THEORY DEVELOPMENT!!. Seems like we focus to find and collaborate the history and its development theory. How we choose the theory and understand what kind of theory used. It is usually caled as STATE OF THE ART. We can say it as “ujung keiomuan” in Bahasa Indonesia. Now, how could we do it? These ones have to be done:

  1. Find out the rellevant journals ( journal is more update and more debateable),  then added by some more data sources.

2.  Find the thesis or dissertation rellevant to out theme of research.

3.  Make some NOTE cards to make it easier note our literature. Then make it chategorize. Do it like LOGBOOK

4. First, do it according to the YEARS of development theory, then its PERIODISATION. So that we can know how’s the background of the theory.

3. Theoritic Gap

a. Not everything happen as common can be practiced in other locus

Some of gap variations:

a.1 The theory is not proven done in other locus

a.2 There is no theory to express or support our ideas

a.3 No enough datas to the theory

 

4. Making a research question

Make sure to make a proper question statement. Also, strong and sharp question impacts the research succes. If we have more than one question of research, be sure that the answers are connected each other. Do not any wide focus. Should be critism when correcting our work in front of the advisor.

5. Focus and Locus (Research Limitation)

Do not make a play about the time. Make sure that is reachable.  But this is no impossible if we wanna choose a kind of milestone time. For example the case of case study in our research.

6. Research Purposes

Commonly, students can do wrong. So, make it clear! More specific is more better. The implication in word using will really happen. For example: “to describe the…”, “to count the…”, do not write “ to know…”.
